Culture Ministry to Devise New Growth Engines

The government plans to create diverse hubs that will foster higher-value-added cultural items, including games and webtoons, and globally promote South Korean content.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism unveiled the plan on Monday when it briefed President Park Geun-hye on its key projects for this year.

The ministry plans to link 120 cultural contents this year and foster competitive contents by supporting investment and distribution of firms that are operating in the Creative Economy Leader, or CEL Venture Complex in Seoul.

In particular, the ministry will seek sustainable growth engines by supporting "next-generation contents deemed highly potential, such as games, online cartoons and high-definition special effects.

The ministry will also set up K-Culture exhibition rooms in ten overseas cultural centers as part of efforts to create diverse distribution hubs both at home and abroad.
