Gyeonggi Province has designed the UNESCO World Heritage site Suwon Hwaseong Fortress area as a special tourist zone.
 
Suwon City said on Monday that the one-point-83 kilometer zone includes most parts of the fortress, including Mount Paldal and Jangan Park.
 
Under the tourism promotion act, the designated zone will benefit from eased regulations and generate annual state funds of up to three billion won for the city. 
 
The city applied for the designation in November last year as part of efforts to ensure a success of its major tourism project for this year, the 2016 Visit Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Year.
