Ancient Korean Prescriptions Found in Old Japanese Medical Book

Ancient Korean medical prescriptions have been found in a ninth-century Japanese book.

The Dongeun Medical Museum at Yonsei University in Seoul said Tuesday that a Japanese medical book entitled “Daedongyuchwibang” was found to contain 37 prescriptions passed from Korea’s three ancient kingdoms, Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla.

Written in ancient Japanese, the prescriptions include a variety of information, such as names of diseases and medicinal herbs, their origins and those who passed them over to Japan.

The museum explained that the records prove Korea’s use of systematic medical methods in its ancient period.
