S. Korean Men's Football Team Wins Berth to 8th Olympic Campaign

The South Korean men’s football team has won a berth to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, defeating Qatar in the semifinals of the Asian Football Confederation(AFC) U-23 Championship.

With the 3-1 victory on Tuesday in Doha, South Korea has become the only country that has qualified for eight consecutive Olympic appearances.

South Korea’s Ryu Seung-woo scored the first goal in the early minutes of the second half. Qatar’s Ahmed Alaa tied the game in the 78th minute.

But two strikes by Kwon Chang-hoon and Moon Chang-jin in the final six minutes made South Korea one of the top three teams in the AFC Championship that are given tickets to the upcoming Summer Games.

South Korea will face Japan in the AFC U-23 final on Saturday.
