Gov't to Strengthen Support for School-Age N. Korean Defectors

The government plans to strengthen mentorship programs for young North Korean defectors to help them better adjust to living in South Korea.

Under a set of measures announced by the Ministry of Education on Friday, one-on-one mentoring programs will be expanded, taking into account various educational demands among school-age North Korean defectors. In particular, those who show potential to excel in a particular subject will be mentored by an expert in the field.

The ministry also plans to publish three new textbooks for school-age defectors to help them explore future career paths, enhance their vocational abilities and resolve communication difficulties stemming from the language divide between the two Koreas.
