S. Korean Women's Team Loses to Australia in Olympic Football Qualifier

The South Korean women's football team lost to Australia in the Asian qualifying tournament for the Rio Olympics this summer, dimming its prospects of advancing to the Summer Games for the first time ever.

In the third qualifying match Friday held at Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka, Japan, South Korea suffered a 2-0 loss to Australia with both goals scored in the first half.

South Korea currently stands fourth among six teams, with two ties and a loss. So far, the team has two points, scored in the final qualification round.

China beat Japan to rank second with seven points. After beating Vietnam, North Korea has risen to third with five points.

To keep the Olympic dream alive, South Korea must win both of the remaining games and also look out for other teams' results.

South Korea will play against China on Monday and Vietnam on Tuesday.
