2 Damaged Volumes of Colonial-Era Korean Dictionary Restored

The National Archives of Korea has restored two severely damaged volumes of a grand dictionary of the Korean language, which was compiled during Japanese colonial rule.

The agency restored the two of the 17-volume historic asset by mending the damaged parts with the traditional Korean paper hanji over a period of some 11 months.

One of the two books was handed to the Independence Hall of Korea late last year after its restoration was completed. The other one will be moved to the museum within this month.

The Independence Hall of Korea plans to put the restored books on display at exhibitions.

The dictionary in 17 volumes was designated as a national record and a cultural asset.
