S. Korean Women's Football Team Fails to Reach Rio

The South Korean women’s football team was unsuccessful in their bid to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro after losing to China in the Asian qualifying tournament.

South Korea lost the match to China 1-0 on Monday, allowing a goal by Wang Shanshan in the 43rd minute in the fourth game of the final qualifying round for the Olympics in Osaka, Japan.

The South Korean team has earned two points in the games, with two draws and two losses without a win. It will play a final match against Vietnam on Wednesday but even a win will not allow South Korea to advance as only the top two teams will qualify.

South Korea began the qualifying round smoothly, drawing with North Korea and Japan. But consecutive losses to Australia and China pulled the squad out of contention for the upcoming Summer Games.
