Pro Football K League Classic Kicks off Saturday

The Hyundai Oilbank K League Classic kicked off Saturday for an eight month run.

Twelve teams are playing in the division football league this season and each team will initially play 33 games.

The 12 teams will split into the top and bottom six depending on interim results. This split system will create five additional games for each team in order to determine the league winner.

The winning team will be determined on November 6 when the final match of the league is held. Each team will play 38 matches in total.

From this year, ranking rules have been revised to consider the number of goals as the second priority after winning points. This is expected to encourage a more offense-driven play.

The official opening match of the K League Classic kicked off at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jeonju World Cup Stadium in North Jeolla Province between defending champion Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and the reigning Korean Football Association (FA) Cup winner FC Seoul.
