Report: South Korean Go champion Lee Se-dol grabbed his first win in the five-game Google DeepMind Challenge match.

In the fourth game in Seoul on Sunday, Lee clinched victory after the 180th move as the screen connected to the Go-playing computer program flashed a pop-up message that said, "AlphaGo resigns."

The game was artificial intelligence AlphaGo's first loss against a human opponent.

The major battle took place at the center of the Go board. AlphaGo first conquered the middle, seeming to make headway to another victory. Lee, however, reversed the situation at the 78th move.

DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis admitted in real-time on Twitter that the move "confused" AlphaGo and that the team "[was] in trouble."

Following the match, Lee said it was a "priceless win" that couldn't be exchanged for anything. He also analyzed that AlphaGo seems to have difficulty when playing black compared to white.

In the game of Go, black makes the first move and white gets compensation points at the end.

Lee, who played white in the fourth game, suggested that he try to win as black in the final match against AlphaGo, to which Hassabis consented.

AlphaGo has already won the historic human versus artificial intelligence challenge by sweeping three wins first, and the match's prize money will be donated to UNICEF and other charity groups.

However, with Lee's first win on Sunday, all eyes are on the final match scheduled for Tuesday to see whether human intuition can prove itself superior to a computer program's intricate algorithm once again.
