Korea Football Association(KFA) President Chung Mong-gyu has been appointed as the top representative of South Korea's delegation to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The Korean Sports Olympic Committee(KSOC) held a board of directors’ meeting in Seoul on Friday and named Chung as the head of the South Korean athletes’ squad for the Brazil Olympic Games that will kick off on August fifth.
The committee said it took into account Chung’s prominence in sports administration, his contribution to the development of the country’s sports, strong leadership and diplomatic skills in recommending him for the post.
Meanwhile, the KSOC divided its leadership roles to international sports and domestic sports, assigning the former to Kim Jung-haeng, a past Korean Olympic Committee(KOC) President, and the latter to former Korea Council of Sport for All(KOCOSA) chief Kang Young-joong.
It was the first board of the directors’ meeting since the KSOC was created out of the merger between the KOC and the KOCOSA.
