The 2016 Tongyeong International Music Festival opened Friday in the coastal city of Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province.

The festival continues through April third at the Tongyeong Concert Hall.

This year's theme, "Sounds of Tomorrow," denotes the pursuit of future-oriented musical performances.

Chosen for the opening piece is the most famous scene from Wagner's opera Parsifal, the "Good Friday Spell." 

The Tongyeong Festival Orchestra will perform the closing show on April third.

The mood in Tongyeong is heating up with tickets for most shows already sold out including one featuring renowned South Korean pianist Paik Kun-woo.
