2016 Ballet Festival Korea to Kick off in May

The country’s biggest annual ballet festival featuring performances by all of the major domestic ballet troupes will kick off its sixth edition in May.

The 2016 Ballet Festival Korea, to be held between May 13th and May 29th, will showcase a variety of repertoires by South Korean's three major ballet troupes—the Seoul Ballet Theatre, the Universal Ballet and the Korea National Ballet—as well as smaller ballet troupes and individual choreographers.

“The Edge of the Circle” and “Contrast,” choreographed by German-based South Korean choreographer Hue Young-soon, will have a Korean premiere during the festival.

The Korea National Ballet will present a special gala comprising classical ballet pieces such as the “Hommage a Bolshoi,” “The Wayward Daughter,” “Don Quixote,” and “Swan Lake.”

The Universal Ballet will take to the stage to put on modern works such as “Duende” and “Minus 7.”
