Kenyan-Born Marathoner Loses Bid for Special Naturalization

Kenyan-born marathoner Wilson Loyanae Erupe has failed in his bid to obtain South Korean citizenship.

The Korean Olympic Committee(KOC) on Wednesday held a meeting and decided not to recommend Erupe to the government for special naturalization.

Erupe received a two-year ban from the International Association of Athletics Federations(IAAF) in early 2013 after failing an out-of-competition doping test. He claimed that it was due to a treatment for malaria.

The KOC said that Erupe did not appeal the IAAF suspension or apply for a therapeutic-use exemption(TUE) when he failed his test.

In another decision, the KOC recommended female basketball player Chelsey Lee for special naturalization.
