Gov’t Gender Equality Officers Hold First Meeting

Officials in charge of gender equality policies at 21 government agencies gathered for a meeting at the government complex in Seoul to discuss their goals and action plans for this year.

At the meeting on Thursday, the officials discussed ways to strengthen gender equality education at home and school and how to reduce gender-biased descriptions in mass media.

Gender Equality and Family Minister Kang Eun-hee asked the participants to devise effective and productive policies to enhance gender equality.

The system designating officials exclusively charged with boosting gender equality was expanded from the central government to local governments in July last year. Starting this year, the gender equality officers will convene regular meetings.

The government plans to introduce the first basic plan for gender equality policies this year.
