A group of 15 local organizations including the federation of student councils launched a headquarters Friday to push ahead with plans for an inter-Korean sports festival.
In a news conference, representatives from the group hailed the agreement reached between Rep. Kim Won-wung of People's Party for Reform (PPR) and Jun Kum-jin, vice chairman of the (North) Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, to hold the sports event on Jeju Island.
They added that they would make efforts to recruit the active participation of Jeju citizenry in the event.
Kim visited Pyongyang last month and discussed with Jun the promotion of an inter-Korean sports festival.
The headquarters said it would recruit volunteers and manage a cheering squad for the sports event, as well as conduct a campaign to see the two Koreas compete under one flag.
