South Korea's southeastern city of Ulsan will host a regional gathering of bird-watchers next year after it won the hosting right over Malaysia.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Government said Thursday that the executive committee for the Asia Bird Fair decided to hold the 2017 event around the Taehwa River in the city.
Based on his visit to the South Korean city last December, Victor Yu, a cochairman of the executive committee, assessed that Ulsan is a good place for bird-watchers, as it is rich in a variety of rare migratory and water birds with its distinctive geographical location near a river, mountains and the sea. He especially noted the great and unique spectacle created by some 100-thousand crows that fly over the city in winter.
The five-day event is expected to bring together over 100 bird-watchers and bird conservation specialists from 13 Asian countries, and also include the participation of unofficial partners such as Britain and France.
