The night sea in the port city of Yeosu is one of the winners of a government project to boost so-called "glocal" tourist products. "Glocal" is a term combining "global" and "local."
The city of Yeosu in South Jeolla Province said Thursday that "Yeosu's night sea" has been chosen among the winners in the project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Through the project, the culture ministry seeks to ease the concentration of tours for foreign visitor focused in metropolitan Seoul and foster tour programs better utilizing regional and local contents.
The ministry held an introductory presentation for the project in February and has since received 58 submissions for "glocal" contents. After three rounds of deliberation, the ministry selected five winning projects to support including the Yeosu night sea.
The ministry will actively promote the chosen tour contents by promoting them as tourist products overseas via major travel agencies in countries such as China and at international tour expos.
