Mt. Gyeyang Traditional Music Contest to Open Saturday

The Gyeyang district in Incheon will host a contest for traditional Korean musicians on Saturday.

Some 500 contestants will perform in the second event of its kind, which will be held at venues around Mt. Gyeyang in the district.

Nearly 20-million won, or over 17-thousand U.S. dollars, in prize money will be given to winners in four categories: pungmulnori, samulnori(traditional percussion quartet), folk song and dancing. Pungmulnori is a traditional farmers' folk music performance that includes drumming and dancing.

Professional traditional music troupes will put on celebratory performances at the event.
