The National Council of Churches in Korea(NCCK) on Thursday announced a self-drafted Korean Peninsula peace treaty.

The liberal leaning protestant organization first drew up a draft treaty during the tenth general assembly of the World Council of Churches held in South Korea's port city of Busan in 2013. The peace treaty consisting of seven chapters has been completed based on expert opinions and internal discussions held by the NCCK's reconciliation and unification committee.

In the preface, the proposed treaty stipulates South and North Korea, the United States and China as the concerned parties. It states the aim of the treaty is to establish lasting, sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula. It also calls for converting the demilitarized zone into an ecological peace belt.

The treaty also declares principles of nonaggression, normalization of diplomatic relations, arms control and creation of a nuclear-free zone. It also proposes formulating a joint inter-Korean commission on peace management.
