Month of May Rich in Traditional Arts and Outdoor Performances

A slew of outdoor traditional music performances are scheduled in South Korea in the month of May.

On May first, the 2016 Jongmyo Daeje will be held at the Jongmyo Shrine and nearby areas in downtown Seoul.

The national intangible cultural asset number one Jongmyo Jeryeak, which is royal ritual music for worshipping the late kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty, will also be put on, promising to delight visitors.

This set of rituals and music has been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

From May fourth to the eighth, the spotlight will be on Deoksu Palace where the Daegeum Sanjo, or traditional flute performance, will be put on stage by masters of the art.

On May fifth, Children's Day, Yangju byeolsandae nori, a mask dance performance, will be showcased in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province.
