Busan Super Cup to Kick off Thursday

An international yacht competition kicks off this week in Busan that will see the participation of 550 athletes representing 14 countries.

Municipal officials in the southern port city said the Busan Super Cup International Yacht Race 2016 will begin Thursday and end Sunday.

A total of 75 teams from countries including the U.S., Russia, Japan, France and Turkey will compete.

The Super Cup originates from the 2006 Busan Cup Yacht Race, a competition among South Korea’s amateur yacht clubs. In 2011, the race was renamed the Busan Cup International Yacht Race, before becoming the Busan Super Cup International Yacht Race the following year.

Boat registration and measurements will take place on Thursday and Friday. The two-day race will take place from Saturday to Sunday.
