Chief of Pyeongchang Olympics Committee Resigns

Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho has resigned as the chief organizer of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

The Pyeongchang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games(POCOG) said on Tuesday that the chairman offered to resign, citing “personal reasons.”

The committee said that his replacement has not been selected yet.

Cho's resignation comes 22 months after he took office in July 2014. With the move, the committee will likely hit a snag with its preparations for the Olympics with 647 days remaining until the Games.

The reason for Cho’s resignation was not immediately known, but he is believed to have offered to step down to tend to his business group, whose shipping unit Hanjin Shipping is facing corporate restructuring.
