Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on his appointment as chairman of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea(WPK).
 
The North’s state-run Korea Central News Agency(KCNA) said Tuesday that Xi sent a congratulatory message to Kim on Monday.
 
In the message, the Chinese president said that both personally and as a representative of the Communist Party of China, he conveyed enthusiastic congratulations to Kim and the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party.
 
Xi then said that the traditional friendly relations, which were planted and nurtured carefully by Chinese and North Korean leaders of past generations, are a joint precious asset for the two countries. He stressed that the Chinese Communist Party and government are placing great value and significance on Beijing-Pyongyang relations.
