Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae won all five individual titles at the eighth Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old kicked off the day earning 18-point-600 points in both the hoop and ball apparatus finals to capture the top spots. She then secured 18-point-550 points in clubs and 18-point-700 points in ribbon, pocketing two more golds on the last day of the Asian Gymnastics Union(AGU) competition held in the city of Tashkent.
Son’s 18-point-700-point score in the ribbon program is the highest in her career in the apparatus.
The South Korean star is also the first player to sweep the four apparatuses and all-around individual scores since Aliya Yussupova of Kazakhstan accomplished the feat in the 2006 Surat Championships and the 2009 Astana Championships.
Son’s crowning on Tuesday follows her three back-to-back victories of the Asian Championship’s individual all-around event, a feat heretofore unaccomplished.
