South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan did not make the preliminary list of swimmers who will compete at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August.
The Korea Swimming Federation on Wednesday selected eleven male and eleven female swimmers who will make up the South Korean swimming team at the Olympics.
Park was not included in the list as he remains under the Korean Sport Olympic Committee(KSOC)’s ban for violating anti-doping regulations.
According to KSOC regulations, athletes cannot compete on national teams for three years after serving penalties related to doping.
Park tested positive for testosterone in a drug test conducted just before the Asian Games in September 2014. He received an 18-month ban from the International Swimming Federation(FINA), the global governing body of swimming.
In the recent Dong-A Swimming Competition in Gwangju, the first official competition Park participated in after the suspension, he won the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle races. Park’s times in the four categories all satisfied the “A” Olympic qualifying standards set by FINA.
