It has been confirmed that swimmer Park Tae-hwan took his appeal against an Olympic ban handed down to him at home to the world's top sports tribunal last month.
His agency, Team GMP, said Saturday that the petition was filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport(CAS) on April 26th over the Korean Sport Olympic Committee(KSOC) decision to ban him from competing in the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The 26-year-old Olympic gold medalist remains under the KSOC’s ban for violating anti-doping regulations in 2014. According to KSOC rules, athletes cannot compete on national teams for three years after serving penalties related to doping.
But Team GMP added that it asked to put on hold the request just two days later. The agency said it is waiting to confirm the KSOC's final stance.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport, headquartered in the Swiss city of Lausanne, was founded in 1984 by the International Olympic Committee as part of efforts to mediate and resolve legal disputes in the global sports arena.
