The Justice Ministry announced that a ceremony will be held on Friday to mark the 9th Together Day, aimed at promoting harmony among Koreans and expatriates in the country.
Under the slogan, “Vibrant Korea Growing with Immigrants,” the ceremony will be held at the Grand Peace Palace at Kyung Hee University from 2 p.m. on Friday.
Some three-thousand people will attend the event, including Justice Minister Kim Hyun-woong and diplomats from 33 countries stationed in South Korea.
Watanabe Mika, who heads the immigrants group, “Water Drop Society of Korea,” will receive this year’s immigrant award. She established a school to help foreign women who married South Korean men to be self-reliant and formed a global community association by bringing together eleven immigrant-related organizations.
The Justice Ministry said that between Friday and next Thursday, more than 50 events marking "Together Week" will be held throughout the nation.
Together Day was designated as a commemoration day by law in 2008 with the aim of promoting cultural diversity and a society where South Koreans and foreigners in the country respect and understand each other.
