The World Health Organization has announced that the SARS epidemic may have peaked globally, including in China, the country worst hit by the disease. The U-N health organization, however, warned that countries should not let their guard down because there is always the possibility for the viral disease to break out again. In particular, the WHO added that, given that there are no confirmed treatments or vaccines for the deadly flu-like illness, focus must be placed on prevention of the disease. In a statement, the WHO said SARS is clearly in decline with no new deaths being reported on Wednesday around the world for the first time since March 28th, when the organization issued an alert on the fatal disease. As of Wednesday, the SARS death toll stood at 772 and the number of patients at some 8400.
