S. Korean Olympic Football Team Beats Nigeria 1-0 in Friendly

South Korea’s Olympic football team beat Nigeria 1-0 in a friendly held at the Suwon World Cup Stadium on Thursday.

Choi Kyu-baek scored the only goal of the match in the 86th minute, bringing the host team to victory over the African powerhouse in its first match of a four-nation tournament.

Nigeria, the 1996 Olympic champion as well as the runner-up of the 2008 Beijing Games, overwhelmed South Korea in the first half with 14 effective shootings. However, the South Korean players took advantage of their opponents' slowed down pace in the second half.

The Korean squad, led by head coach Shin Tae-yong, will square off with Honduras on Sunday and play against Denmark on Monday.
