Busan to Host Ironman 70.3 International Triathlon Event

An international triathlon event will be held at Haeundae and Gijang in South Korea's port city of Busan on June 19th.

The 2016 Ironman 70-point-three Busan will require participants to complete a 113-point-one kilometer, or 70-point-three mile, triathlon course within eight-and-a-half hours.

The course includes a one-point-nine kilometer swimming section, a 90-point-one kilometer cycling section and a 21-point-one kilometer section for the marathon.

It is the first time Busan will host an Ironman competition authorized by the World Triathlon Corporation(WTC), the global governing body of the event.

Around two-thousand people, including 800 athletes, are expected to visit the port city on the occasion of the triathlon.

The top 40 athletes will get a berth to the Ironman 70-point-three World Championship to be held in Australia later this year.

The inaugural Ironman 70-point-three event held in Cairns in Australia in 2013 was known to have created around 13-point-six billion won worth of economic benefits for the host city.
