A group of local scientists has identified that baicalein from the roots of Baikal skullcap plants can selectively kill MutSα-deficient colon cancer cells.

The Institute for Basic Science announced on Wednesday that the team led by Dr. Myung Kyung-jae made the discovery.

The team analyzed some 300 effective substances related to DNA damage repair out of some 300-thousand compounds revealed by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
