Multilingual Transportation Info to be Provided

The government plans to provide information and reservation services in various languages to boost foreign tourists’ usage of transportation and to revitalize local tourism.

The government on Friday held a meeting on boosting the competitiveness of the cultural and tourism industries and sought ways to raise tourists’ satisfaction in hopes they will return to the country for another visit.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it will provide information on the operation of intercity buses in English, Chinese and Japanese through Web sites as well as mobile applications by the end of the year.

The ministry also plans to establish by the first quarter of 2017 a multilingual reservation and payment system to enable people abroad to reserve seats on express and intercity buses using their credit cards.

For the nation’s five ancient palaces, the government will hire professional tour guides. The government will also improve qualification systems, including easing standards for passing foreign language tests, to foster Thai and Indonesian tour guides who are in short supply.
