The Foreign Ministry said Monday South Korea and China reached full agreement over the weekend in negotiations to draft a treaty on judicial assistance in civil and commercial matters.

The agreement came during talks held on Saturday and Sunday in Seoul.

The treaty would specify cooperation by the two countries in such areas as document delivery and evidence investigation in civil and commercial litigation.

The ministry said it is expected to contribute to the effective and prompt settlement of civil and commercial lawsuits involving the two countries.

If the treaty is finalized, China would become the second country, after Australia, to have a legal cooperation pact with South Korea in civil matters.
