Go Master Lee Se-dol Holds Match with Rock Star on Dokdo

South Korean Go master Lee Se-dol won by resignation in a match held with singer Kim Jang-hoon on the Dokdo islets on Thursday.

In the match that began at noon, Lee was paired with professional player Jang Hye-yeon while Kim, an amateur Go player himself, teamed up with Asian Games gold medalist Lee Seul-a.

The Lee-Jang duo prevailed over the game and defeated the opposing team after about two hours and 20 minutes.

Lee, as a winner, provided five million won and Kim gave ten million won as a joint donation, which will be added with other contributions that were raised.

The match was first proposed by Kim, who is a PR ambassador for the Korea Baduk Association, in a bid to promote the ancient board game at the beloved travel destination for South Koreans.

Lee Se-dol made headlines over his historic five-game match against Google DeepMind's AlphaGo computer program held in March.
