K-Culture Festival to Open in New Zealand Sunday

The South Korean Embassy in New Zealand announced Friday that it will host a K-Culture Festival in the capital Wellington on Sunday.

The festival will kick off with tasting Korean cuisine such as seaweed rice roll "gimbap" and green onion pancakes called "pajeon."

The festival will also showcase a traditional Korean fashion show and a collaborative demonstration of traditional dance and the martial art Taekwondo.

Performances featuring a mask dance, hip-hop and a classical string quartet will also be held while a K-pop contest is also scheduled to further uplift the festive mood.

In its second year, the K-Culture Festival is jointly organized by the South Korean embassy, the city of Wellington and the Wellington Korean Association with the aim to boost understanding of South Korea in the multiethnic country.

The embassy expects some three-thousand locals including Korean residents to attend this year's event.
