A local court ruled Friday that swimmer Park Tae-hwan is eligible to compete in the Rio Olympics this summer.
The Seoul Eastern District Court accepted an injunction Park filed last month and delivered a ruling Friday saying that the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) banning him from the Olympics over its internal regulations violates rules set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The 27-year-old was suspended for 18 months by FINA, the international swimming governing body, after testing positive for a banned substance in September 2014.
The ban ended this past March and Park went on to pass the standards to join Olympic national team in April.
But the KOC banned him from the team based on its rule that blocks athletes from representing the country for three years after a doping suspension ends.
Park then took the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport claiming unfairness of the double punishment. He also filed the injunction with the Seoul Eastern District Court on June 23rd.
