KBS TV's latest series "Uncontrollably Fond" is expected to become a huge sensation in China as it is aired simultaneously in the country alongside South Korea.
China’s top video streaming site Youku Tudou, which is exclusively broadcasting the series for paying users, estimated on Tuesday that the accumulated number of views for the first and second episodes topped 40 million.
3HW, which is charged with promoting the romance drama, said that the online server of Youku Tudou froze at one point after viewers flocked to the site to check out the first episode that aired last Wednesday.
On Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, search requests for the drama surged from 500 million to nearly one-point-eight billion after the first episode aired. As of Tuesday, the new drama ranked the third-highest among most searched items on Weibo, testifying its growing popularity.
Production company Samhwa Networks said it is astounded by the explosive response from China since the airing of the first episode, adding that it expects such responses will become hotter after the third and fourth episodes are broadcast.
