The government will hold a meeting of related ministries on Wednesday to discuss safety measures for South Koreans ahead of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics set for next month.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Cho June-hyuck said on Tuesday during a regular news briefing that in the meeting, the ministries and agencies would share the results of their on-site checkups of the Olympic venues and discuss measures to keep South Koreans safe from acts of terror and infectious diseases.
The meeting comes after an safety inspection team led by Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Han Dong-man visited Rio to inspect security conditions from last Tuesday to Friday.
The planned meeting to be chaired by Han will be attended by officials from the presidential office, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Olympic Committee, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Korean National Police Agency.
