South Korea’s FIFA ranking has risen to the 48th spot, breaking into the top 50.
In its latest ranking released on Thursday, the world’s football governing body placed the South Korean men’s national football team at 48th for July.
South Korea was ranked 50th last month.
It is the first time in three years that South Korea has cracked the top 50 since it was placed at 43rd in July of 2013.
South Korea’s 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic in a friendly match early last month appears to have contributed to the improvement of its global standing.
South Korea came in second among the Asian Football Confederation(AFC) members, following Iran, which was ranked 38th. Japan was ranked 57th, a notch below Uzbekistan.
The top five FIFA rankings remained unchanged with Argentina leading the pack, followed by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.
Portugal, which won the UEFA Euro 2016 early this month, jumped by two notches to sixth, while the runners-up France jumped by ten notches to seventh.
Spain and Brazil both fell by two notches to eighth and ninth, respectively.
