The 19th Boryeong Mud Festival opened at Daecheon Beach in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province on Friday.
 
Under the theme "Exciting Mud Experience with People Around the World," the event began with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m.
 
Later in the afternoon, a concert will be held and on Saturday, street parades will take place in parts of the city before a Black Eagles Airshow opens at 4 p.m.
 
Kim Dong-il, the head of the festival’s organizing committee, said all-out efforts were made to prepare for the festival. He encouraged people to come to Boryeong and relieve all their stress by rolling about in the mud.

The annual festival which attracts large numbers of foreign visitors as well as locals will run through July 24th. The mud used in the festival is known to be rich in mineral components.
