South Korean zombie movie “Train to Busan” had a strong run at the local box office over the weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council on Monday, the latest flick drew over three-point-21 million viewers after it was screened at one-thousand-785 theaters between last Friday and Sunday.
The accumulated number of people who saw the movie stood at around five-point-three million, including those who came to see the movie premiere between July 15th and 17th and those who saw it since its official release last Wednesday.
On the first day of its release, the movie drew 872-thousand-232 viewers, a new record in South Korean film history. On Saturday alone, it attracted nearly one-point-29 million moviegoers, the largest crowd to be recorded ever for one day.
“Train to Busan,” directed by Yeon Sang-ho and starring Gong Yoo, became the first South Korean movie to surpass the five million admissions mark in just five days since its release.
The figure, however, included viewers who came to see the premiere.
