Judoka Jeong Bo-Kyeong Wins Silver for S. Korea's First Medal in Rio

South Korea’s first medal in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics came from Judo.

Judoka Jeong Bo-kyeong won silver in the women’s minus-48 kilogram final on Saturday at Carioca Arena 2 after losing to Paula Pareto of Argentina by waza-ari or half-a-point.

Jeong defeated Van Ngoc Tu of Vietnam in the elimination round of 16 and beat No. 1 Urantsetseg Munkhbat of Mongolia in the quarters.

She then defeated Dayaris Mestre Álvarez of Cuba by an ippon in the semifinals to reach the final but lost to Pareto.

On a brighter note, Jeong said she loves the title of being the first South Korean medalist in Rio.
