The South Korean women’s archery team won their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal by beating Russia at the team competition final at the Rio Games on Sunday.

At Sambodromo, the team of Chang Hye-jin, Choi Mi-sun and Ki Bo-bae, defeated Russia’s Tuiana Dashidorzhieva, Ksenia Perova and Inna Stepanova by a set score of 5-1.

South Korea has never lost in women’s archery team competition since the discipline was adopted as an official Olympic program in Seoul 1988.

Only two other teams in Olympic history have won an eighth consecutive time.

South Korean judoka Ahn Ba-ul was the favorite to win men’s 66-kilogram competition, but he settled for a silver medal after he was upset by 29th-ranked Fabio Basile of Italy at Carioca Arena 2 on Sunday. 

South Korea also dashed hope for a medal in swimming, after Park Tae-hwan failed to make it into the 16-men final at the 200-meter freestyle, finishing 29th out of 47 participants in Sunday’s preliminaries.

Yoon Jin-hee, however, won a bronze medal in women’s 53-kilogram weightlifting final, with a total of 199 kilograms, finishing behind Taiwan’s Hsu Shu-ching and Hidilyn Diaz of the Philippines.

With two gold medals, along with two silver and a bronze, South Korea remains fourth in the medal standings as of 8 a.m. Monday in Korean time, trailing Australia, Italy and China.
