South Korean film "Train to Busan” has amassed more than ten million viewers at local theaters.

Film distributor New said that the cumulative number of audience members watching the zombie thriller was tallied at ten-million-661 as of Sunday afternoon, the 19th day since its release.

It makes it the first movie to top the ten-million mark at the local box office this year and the 14 domestic film to have reached the milestone ever.

Industry watchers give some credit for the movie’s success to a favorable review it drew during the “Midnight Screenings” at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Meanwhile, another South Korean movie "Operation Chromite," which revolves around the story of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur during the Korean War attracted more than five million viewers on Sunday.

According to the film’s distributor CJ Entertainment, five-million-eight people watched the movie as of 10 a.m. Sunday, the 12th day since its release.
