Golfer Seong Eun-jeong Wins US Women's Amateur Championship

South Korean teenage golfer Seong Eun-jeong has won the 116th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, becoming the first player to win the event as well as the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship in the same year.

The 17-year-old South Korean secured a one-up victory against Italy’s Virginia Elena Carta by holing a 40-foot birdie putt on the final 36th hole at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania on Sunday.

The victory comes only two weeks after Seong successfully defended her title at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in New Jersey.

Seong already won a berth in next year’s U.S. Women’s Open as a finalist of the Women’s Amateur. With the latest victory, she has also been qualified for major LPGA matches such as the ANA Inspiration and the British Women’s Open.
