Perseid Meteor Shower to Peak Friday Night

The annual Perseid meteor shower will peak on Friday night.

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute said on Monday that the best time to spot the meteor shower in South Korea is between 10 p.m. Friday and 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The International Meteor Organization(IMO) predicted that the rate of meteors will reach 150 meteors per hour under perfect conditions with an average speed expected at 59 kilometers per second.

The meteor shower, named after the constellation Perseus, occurs when Earth passes through the debris stream occupying the orbit of the comet “Swift-Tuttle.”
