S. Korea Beefs up Efforts to Foster AI Industry

The South Korean government is gearing up efforts to foster artificial intelligence(AI) technologies.

During a science and technology strategic council meeting presided over by President Park Geun-hye at the top office on Wednesday, the government designated nine state projects to cultivate the country’s new growth engines, five of which are related to AI.

Under the projects, the government will seek to increase the number of domestic firms involved in the AI industry to one-thousand and foster three-thousand-600 experts in the field by 2026.

The government said it aims to catch up with other advanced countries in ten years in terms of AI technology prowess.
