The Unification Ministry’s Center for Unified Korean Future will hold a chorus festival together with the National Chorus of Korea to mark Liberation Day, which falls on Monday next week.
The festival will see the participation of some 140 members of four choirs made up of South Koreans from the U.S., China and Vietnam and roughly 150 members of four girls and boys choirs active in South Korea.
The groups will sing folk songs, traditional songs and tunes wishing for the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
The event was held for the first time last year to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
The participating choirs will perform in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week. They will also perform at the Seoul Arts Center between Monday and Wednesday of next week.
While last year’s festival saw the participation of ten choirs from eight countries, this year, the Unification Ministry said it sought to demonstrate South Korea’s desire for unification with the participation of members from girls and boys choirs.
