7 Out of 10 Moviegoers Saw Korean Films in August

Korean films accounted for more than 70 percent of tickets sold for all movies watched in theaters during the first 15 days of August.

According to computerized box office figures, Korean films took up 70-point-two percent of tickets sold for all films watched during the peak summer season.

Figures for American and Japanese films were 26-point-one percent and three-point-one percent, respectively.

The strong performance of Korean films is attributed to the box office success of Korean blockbusters. The unexpectedly weak performances of Hollywood blockbusters, such as "Jason Bourne" and "Suicide Squad," are also believed to have boosted the market share of Korean films.
